信號調制與解調以及對信號的自適應平衡放大、濾波及與微控制器的通信等功能由電力線載波芯片完成。電力線接口則起到耦合、隔離、濾波與保護的功能。
由此，我們選用ST7538載波芯片作為信號調制解調芯片。ST7538載波芯片是一款為家庭和工業領域電力線網絡通信而設計的半雙工、同步/異步、FSK調制解調器芯片，具有功能強大、集成度高、抗干擾技術多等特點，已在電力載波通信中比較廣泛的應用。
ST7538通過串行接口與主控制器交換數據。由于在方案設計中ATmega88V的USART用來和服務器通信，所以ST7538與主機的接口采用其通過串行接口與ATmega88V的串行外設接口SPI相互通信來實現。ATmega88V的串行外設接口SPI具有全雙工、3線同步數據傳輸、主從及操作等特點。在本方案設計中采用ST7538做主機，ATmega88V做從機，由ST7538提供數據同步傳輸時鐘。
3 電源芯片的選擇
由于整個系統中主要芯片（ST7538，ATmega88V）的工作電壓分別是12V和5V，系統總功率不超過 2W，所以我們選用LM2596 作為電源芯片。LM2596開關電壓調節器是降壓型電源管理單片集成電路，具有非常小的電壓調整率和電流調整率，具有3A的負載驅動能力，LM2596 能夠輸出3.3V、5V、12V、15V 的固定電壓和電壓可調節的可調電壓輸出方式，輸入電壓達到36V。LM2596 應用時比較簡單且外圍元件較少，如圖2所示（只有四個），內置頻率補償電路和固定頻率振蕩器。LM2596 系列產品的開關頻率為52kHz，所以應用時可以使用小尺寸的濾波元件。它可以高效地取代一般的三端線性穩壓器，能夠充分減小散熱片的面積。在規定的輸入電壓和輸出負載的條件下，LM2596 輸出電壓的誤差范圍為±4%；振蕩器的振蕩頻率誤差范圍為±10%；典型的待機電流為50μA，芯片內置過流保護電路和過熱保護電路。所以在設計中選用了兩片LM2596分別做兩個支路輸出5V和12V。此外，在PCB設計時考慮到開關電源芯片會產生很強的電磁波輻射，所以盡量遠離調制解調電路及濾波電路，以免對載波信號造成干擾。
