同步帶分單面有齒和雙面有齒兩種，簡稱為單面帶和雙面帶。雙面帶按齒排列的不同，有D型(對稱齒廓)和DⅡ型(交錯齒廓)之分。內外面都有齒的齒形帶適用于旋轉方向改變的多軸傳動。目前同步帶及帶輪常用齒廓有梯形、漸開線、圓弧、拋物線等，齒廓一般用滾刀或插齒刀加工。在我國，梯形齒同步帶傳動已制訂有九項國標，但圓弧齒同步帶傳動還未有國家標準，紡織工業部統一了國內高扭矩同步帶單圓弧齒和雙圓弧齒兩大類帶和輪的齒廓尺寸，制訂了六項行業標準。
